Serrapeptase is an enzyme that comes from the silkworm. When the silkworm is ready to emerge from its cocoon, it produces an enzyme that dissolves it so that it can enter a new world. Studies show that this same enzyme can be used to help heal us as well.
Over 20 years ago, a German Scientist and Doctor named Hans Nieper discovered this enzyme and found in his research that only a small amount would, if taken on a daily basis for 18 months, would clean out clogged arteries. They would be almost entirely clear! Serrapeptase has been used for many years in Europe and Japan. Japanese research states that Serrapeptase can safely dissolve any dead tissue in the body and then dispose of it through normal body channels. This process naturally causes less pain and in many cases no more pain!
Clinical studies show that Serrapeptase induces fibrinolytic,
anti-inflammatory and anti-edemic (prevents swelling and fluid
retention) activity in a number of tissues, and that its
anti-inflammatory effects are superior to other proteolytic enzymes.
Besides reducing inflammation, one of Serrapeptase's most profound
benefits is reduction of pain, due to its ability to block the release
of pain-inducing amines from inflamed tissues. Physicians throughout
Europe and Asia have recognized the anti-inflammatory and pain-blocking
benefits of this naturally occurring substance and are using it in
treatment as an alternative to salicylates, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs

Dr. K’s Serrapeptase (Nature’s Healing Remedies, Inc.) is the best source out there. Each capsule contains 600 mg of pure Serrapeptase from Japan. I have not seen any source that puts that many milligrams in one capsule! Serrapeptase enteric coated granules are encased in a high potency capsule which dissolves for the greatest amount of absorption. Enteric coating makes sure that the Serrapeptase is not destroyed by gastric juices but are released properly for superior absorbtion. Tablet form is inferior because of the compression used to form it into a tablet degrades the supplement.
Suggested Dose
1 capsule before bedtime with water, taken on an empty stomach, or up to 3 times per day depending upon the condition or the recommendation of your doctor or health professional. Time between meals should be about 2 to 3 hours before or after a meal.
Suggested use
One or two Serrapeptase capsules 1 to 3 times daily or as recommended by your health care provider. Can be two capsules taken, not close to meals, on an empty stomach, before bedtime. Check with your doctor or health professional before taking this or any other substance.
Serrapeptase is proving to be a superior alternative to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) traditionally used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Its many usages have also been extended to the treatment of chronic sinusitis and postoperative inflammation, and some researchers believe the substance can play an important role in arterial plaque prevention and removal.
A double-blind study conducted by German researchers to determine the effect of serrapeptase on post-operative swelling and pain involved sixty-six patients who were treated surgically for fresh rupture of the lateral collateral ligament of the knee. On the third post-operative day, the group receiving Serrapeptase exhibited a 50 percent reduction of swelling, compared to the controls. The patients receiving Serrapeptase also became more rapidly pain-free than the controls, and by the tenth day, the pain had disappeared completely.
Cystic Breast Disease
Serrapeptase has also been used in the successful treatment of fibrocystic breast disease proving itself to be superior to a placebo for improvement of breast pain, breast swelling and induration (firmness). Researchers concluded that "Serrapeptase is a safe and effective method for the treatment of breast engorgement."
Regardless of whether Serrapeptase is used for inflammatory diseases or to prevent plaque build up on the arteries, it is well-tolerated. Due to its lack of side effects and anti-inflammatory capabilities, Serrapeptase is a logical choice to replace harmful NSAIDs. Thanks to the tiny larvae of the silk moth, researchers have taken a large step toward finding relief for inflammatory disease sufferers. Serrapeptase is proving to be of great benefit in conservative treatment. Larger studies will be of further help to helpful to establish the role of Serrapeptase.
